Today was the last day of the Gill College Sailing Coed National Championship, the final of three high caliber spring college sailing national championships that were hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy with support from Georgetown University, the Annapolis Yacht Club, Severn Sailing Association, Eastport Yacht Club and the Annapolis Sailing School. The Naval Academy came out on top on their home waters to win the national title and the Henry A. Morss Memorial Trophy.

Racing was completed today in the College Sailing Team Race National Championship hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. with support from local clubs, Severn Sailing Association, Annapolis Yacht Club, Annapolis Sailing School and Eastport Yacht Club, who helped store boats and teams and Georgetown University for helping to supply FJs and Old Dominion University with a ref boat. This is the second of three, spring college sailing national championships hosted by the Naval Academy. ANNAPOLIS, M.D. (May 20, 2021) - Racing concluded today in the College Sailing Women’s National Championship hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy. After two days of challenging racing in light breeze, the College of Charleston came away as the winners of the national championship and the Gerald C. Miller Trophy.

The racing over the last two days brought light winds and shifty conditions. The first day was all about boat speed and the Boston College sailors excelled at this winning the day - although closely followed by the College of Charleston, Tulane University, Stanford University and the U.S. Naval Academy - in the top five.

ANNAPOLIS, M.D. (May 18, 2021) – The Women’s College Sailing National Championships start tomorrow, Wednesday, May 19th, and will run through the 20th, hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy. The two remaining spring Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) Championships, the LaserPerformance College Sailing Team Race Nationals and the Gill College Sailing Dinghy Nationals, will follow in the coming weeks.

The 2021 ICSA Spring Season officially has a championship slate as five national championship regattas are set to be sailed throughout the month of May and into June. College Sailing has cautiously resumed small, local events, primarily along the Eastern Seaboard with the ultimate goal of returning to full sized regattas to finish the season with a newly crowned champion.

Though some of the specific details have yet to be completely ironed out, the Naval Academy will provide their impressive fleet with assistance from surrounding yacht clubs to run the three double-handed regattas that staple the spring season. The yacht clubs that will be assisting are: Annapolis Yacht Club, Severn Sailing Association, Eastport Yacht Club and Annapolis Sailing School.

ANNAPOLIS, M.D. (June 12, 2020) – This evening in a Facebook live broadcast on the Intercollegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) page a virtual awards ceremony took place announcing the ICSA 2019-20 All America Team. The names of the winners will be added to the ICSA Hall of Fame displayed at the Robert Crown Center at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

A committee of representatives from the various conferences in the ICSA selects the ICSA All America Team. This year’s committee is: MAISA: Ian Burman (chair), Brian Clancy, MCSA: Geoff Pedrick, NEISA: David Thompson, Bill Healy, PCCSC: Brian Swingly, SAISA: Ward Cromwell, SEISA: Charles Higgins.

To select an All American skipper, the committee evaluates a competitor based on their competitive record in inter-conference competition as well as conference and national championships. The committee analyzes how this record compares to fellow competitors, the quality of the competition the record was achieved in, and results achieved competing with different crews, the span of the record over the fall and spring seasons, and how the record compares to previous All American winners.

Evaluating using these criterion presented a little challenge this year for the committee due to the spring sailing season cut short by COVID-19.
