Top 9 Schools From Eastern & Western Semifinals Advance to ICSA Open National Championship Finals

For the first time since Newport Nationals in 2019, College Sailing Open Fleet Race Semi-Finals were held in New Orleans, LA hosted by Tulane University with support from Southern Yacht Club. 36 teams from across the country traveled to the Big Easy to compete for a coveted spot in the College Sailing National Championship for the Henry A. Morss Trophy.

“There is not much to say. It was great to see 36 great college sailing teams competing at one venue. I really enjoyed seeing some friends I haven’t seen since Newport in 2019,” ICSA President Mitch Brindley said about the return of College Sailing National Semi-Finals.

The format for semi-finals is as follows. 36 teams were selected by an independent selection committee based on teams fleet racing performance throughout the year. Each team was then seeded and divided evenly into Eastern and Western semi-finals. The top 9 from each field would advance to the finals. The Eastern Semi-Final group started in 420s while the Western Semi-Final Group started in FJs.

Racing concluded at the College Sailing Team Race National Championship on Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans hosted by Tulane University with support from Southern Yacht Club and Community Sailing New Orleans. Sixteen of the best college teams across the nation qualified to compete in this event for the Walter C. Wood Trophy, awarded to the winning team. The Yale Bulldogs walked away with the title and an impressive record of 22-3.

The Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) is excited to announce a new five-year sponsorship agreement with Zim Sailing and West Coast Sailing. These are two of North America’s leading suppliers of boats, parts and equipment, both owned and led by former college sailors.

As ‘Official Suppliers’ of College Sailing, Zim Sailing and West Coast Sailing will contribute equipment for use at the various ICSA national championships, including 420/FJ sails at Spring Championships, and complete ILCA boats at Singlehand championships. In addition to providing equipment, both companies have created a unique cash contribution plan where 5% of purchases made by college sailing programs will be donated back to ICSA. This will create a direct circle of support for the long term benefit of student athletes and the continued growth of College Sailing.

PROVIDENCE 4/24/2022 – Yale University walked away victorious in the inaugural Women's Team Race National Championship, hosted by Brown University April 23 and 24th. Since 1959, the ICSA and the British Universities Sailing Association (BUSA) have taken part in a bi-annual competition where each organization sends a team of outstanding student-athletes across the Atlantic to compete against one another.  This summer, the ICSA will be sending a team to England to once again represent all of ICSA in “The Tour."

The ICSA-BUSA Tour has historically featured talented athletes on both sides who have gone onto represent their country in the Olympics, the America’s Cup, and much more.  Every 4 years the ICSA sends a team of our very best to compete against many of the best student-athletes from across the BUSA universities.

The 2021 edition of the Tour was postponed due to COVID-19, and is thankfully now back on for this summer.  The dates of the tour including travel will run between July 15-August 9, with a firmer set of dates and itinerary to follow in the coming weeks.

Congratulations to Leo Boucher from St. Mary's for winning the Glenn S Foster Trophy for the College Sailing Singlehanded Championship! Congratulations to Charlotte Rose from Jacksonville for winning the Janet Lutz Trophy for the College Sailing Women's Singlehanded National Championship!
