Announcing the 2022 ICSA-BUSA Tour

Since 1959, the ICSA and the British Universities Sailing Association (BUSA) have taken part in a bi-annual competition where each organization sends a team of outstanding student-athletes across the Atlantic to compete against one another.  This summer, the ICSA will be sending a team to England to once again represent all of ICSA in “The Tour."

The ICSA-BUSA Tour has historically featured talented athletes on both sides who have gone onto represent their country in the Olympics, the America’s Cup, and much more.  Every 4 years the ICSA sends a team of our very best to compete against many of the best student-athletes from across the BUSA universities.

The 2021 edition of the Tour was postponed due to COVID-19, and is thankfully now back on for this summer.  The dates of the tour including travel will run between July 15-August 9, with a firmer set of dates and itinerary to follow in the coming weeks.

It is the intent of the Tour Leader for all housing and travel costs associated with the Tour to be covered by ICSA.  All participants should expect to pay for their meals and personal expenses.

The Tour consists of 5 primary trophy events, featuring 3v3 Team Racing in Fireflies and ILCA 6s, as well as Team and Match Racing in small keelboats.  Additional racing opportunities will also be had throughout the tour.

This year’s tour will feature stops in Edinburgh, West Kirby Sailing Club, Birmingham, Plymouth, Weymouth, Cowes, Lymington, and London.

This year’s ICSA team will consist of 8-10 qualified applicants.  Selection will be based primarily on the applicants’ proven ability in the discipline of dinghy team racing, with additional consideration given to expertise in ILCA and Match Race sailing.  The team will consist of a mix of excellent male and female skippers and crews.

All applicants must be in good standing on a current ICSA member institution’s roster, and must not have exhausted their ICSA eligibility prior to Spring 2022.

Interested student-athletes should send a resume along with 1-2 references to 2022 Tour Leader Charles Higgins, at chiggins1@tulane.edu no later than 5:00pm EST on Friday, Feb. 11.  An announcement on the selection of the Tour Team will happen by Friday, Feb. 25.
